Music and Productivity: What Science Says?

Listening to music

I still remember the early high school days when I often hear music during my math homework. Then either I stop doing maths or end up hating the playlist. Just like the wise man says, Never put your favorite song as your alarm tone, cause your favorite song will end up being your nightmare *Winky Face*.

You have to believe that there is something between music and our brain. Today we will uncover not only this but also does music helps us to be more productive. If it makes a 1% higher result we will give the award to music for being a productivity booster.

To keep the discussion brief and bite-sized, let’s get straight to the point that truly answers our query.

Let’s dive in.

Music and Productivity:

To know why music is even related to productivity, we have to know what improves productivity and what it is. Productivity is our output or action for any given command. And as we know, no output can be measured if there is no input.

Music is that one kind of input that we give ourselves during the output period to maximize the outcome.

If you have a dancing kid inside like me, whenever or wherever you hear upbeat music or a dance-stimulating song, don't know why you start to dance from inside. And on the flip side, some sad songs remind us of the deepest sorrows with just a few lyrics and tunes. Thats a quite powerful right?

Yes, it is. Now, those who had a question about my topic have to say, Avijit has a point!

The Input Process:

Now to be specific, here productivity is doing something that is important for your intellectual growth. To achieve that you have to on your best self. Like studying for exams, or writing an article for medium readers.

Music has versatility like my writings (though nobody hires me).

When it comes to getting the most productivity out of music, distraction-free music is highly recommended.

So what is distraction-free music?

Improve productivity, Instrumental music is quite popular nowadays.

As well as, white music. White music is the sound of nature. They are a good way to inject productivity juicy inside us.

Lyrics-based music often leads our brain to think about the words in that song. And listening to popular music while doing productive work means you're multitasking (that is worth Zero).

What science says:

Famous neuroscientist and Podcaster Andrew Huberman often talk about human brain functions and the myths of productivity hacks. According to his statement, listening to proper music and synchronizing beats can drastically help to build more focus and improves productivity.

And while writing this share of thought, I tried different types of music in different phases. I tried instrumental music, classical Hindi, and the white noise of the riverside, at last, I tried out popular songs too. In my experience, instrumental music according to my current mood was a game-changer for me. You can try it too. Hope this will improve your productivity in writing, creating, and solving your homework.

If you're still here, I will be glad if you share your thoughts in the comments. That will boost my spirit to write more.
